Options to Consider for Surgery

Medical Cross

Certain diagnostic procedures are optional in Veterinary medicine, however optional does not mean they are not important.

Examples would include:

Blood work/Urinalysis and evaluation prior to anesthesia and surgery.

Dogs 6 years and older, cats 8 years and older should have a blood panel and urinalysis done.

Some form of fluid support/therapy is helpful for medical/emergency patients as well as anesthetic and surgical patients.

Blood pressure, oxygen level, temperature, as well as other parameters is a necessary part of anesthesia/surgical patient assessment which is provided to them. We also measure these parameters during the clinical evaluation of patients as they will allow.

It is important to withhold food 8-12 hours prior to any anesthetic procedure, water is not withheld.

All patients are sent home with instructions and most often we demonstrate these with you prior to the discharge of each patient. We take the time to make sure you understand the home care. We are always available for questions and help with this care.
